Author's " GO BAG "

The Author carries his "go bag" (a 3-day survival bag) with him at all times. It's a military style/molle system back-pack. Not the cheap kind, not the most expensive, designer kind. The kind that fits "his" back and carries what "he" deems
important.
"GO BAG "

First, a six-pack of bottled water. Water is #1 - that's it pure and simple. Quick note: Water is rotated and drank every 3 months no matter what, just to keep it fresh.

Freeze dried food is #2. He carries a major name brand for this. All you have to do is "add hot water".  He also carries (1) MRE in his bag. Remember - You can't carry the whole kitchen with you!

#3 is First-Aid supplies & prescriptions/medications

3 days is a long time, but it's not as bad with a full belly and shelter etc. Next, he carries basic tools: multiple flashlights for redundancy (w/ extra bulbs & batteries), Spare coins/dollars for vending machines/pay phones, should you get stuck on the freeway or road and have to hike to civilization. Basic tools:

Screwdriver, hammer, shovel, pliers (multi-use tool), rope/twine, duct tape, gloves, goggles, bandanas, extra shoe laces, caribiners, pen & paper, jumper cables, emergency shelter blanket (keeps you warm & it's waterproof), signal mirror, compass, whistle, small hand-crank
emergency radio, hard candy, survival handbook. If you have children, toys & favorite snacks go a long way.

You will want to customize the bag to your spec's. Everyone is different and has different needs. These are just the basics and cheap insurance should you get into a situation. You will also have to consider the weight of the bag. The author's wife simply has a "go bag" with water, flashlight, jumper cables, blankets & basic food.

FYI- Remember, you might be helping someone else (family member, friend or stranger). You might have to share something, so it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. The author has personally helped people who had "nothing" during medical emergencies and other crises.

The key is not to panic and to know in your head that you "can" survive. Attitude is paramount, having the "will" means everything. The author wanted to make this known: He is NOT a "survivalist", but a "survivor".
